Rotraut Jäger & Till Oelkers

Fairy tales, legends, and stories are at the heart of this entertaining program featuring Rotraut Jäger/flute and Till Oelkers/piano. The two virtuoso musicians perform Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué’s fairy tale “Undine”: a tragic love story that Carl Reinecke masterfully set to music in his four-movement Sonata. With François Borne’s “Fantaisie Brillante”, the duo tells the story of Georges Bizet’s illustrious opera character Carmen: this femme fatale knows how to cast a spell over all men—a (mis)virtue that proves to be her undoing. Pan, the god of shepherds from Greek mythology, is also one of the central figures in this program. The first movement of Jules Mouquet’s sonata “La Flûte de Pan”—“Pan et les Bergers”—transports the audience into the world of nature and the sounds of the (pan-)flute. Finally, Till Oelkers and Rotraut Jäger turn their attention to Jacques Ibert’s “Histoires”—a collection of ten short stories with titles such as “La meneuse de tortues d’or” (The Leader of the Golden Turtles) and “La cage de cristal” (The Crystal Cage).
